Color and finish
Colors, sheens and sample doors
Color looks different on a door than on a chip, and different again under your kitchen lights. We bring sample doors.
Dark greens and navy are popular in Houston kitchens, as are warm whites and greige. Whatever you choose, we hold the sample next to your counters and floor before you decide.

Choosing
Three ways we help you choose

Sample doors at your house
Hold them against the counters, in morning light and with the lights on at night.

A fan of whites and greiges
Most kitchens land on one of a dozen. We'll narrow it with you in one visit.

Cabinets and trim as one scheme
Olive, cream and sage on a tablecloth is how we test an island against the rest.
Sheens
Sheens in plain words
Matte
A soft, flat look that hides small flaws. It marks more easily, so it suits upper cabinets and low-use rooms.
Satin
The usual choice for kitchens: a gentle glow that wipes clean without looking glossy.
Semi-gloss
The hardest wiping surface, and the most reflective. Good for vanities and mudroom benches.
Finish questions
Who buys the paint, and which paint is it?
We do; it's in the price. It's a premium cabinet-grade enamel in matte, satin or semi-gloss. Ask for the product data sheet and we send it with the written price.
Will the oak grain show through the paint?
Yes, unless it's filled. Honey oak has deep grain. We can fill it for a smooth look, which is its own line on the price, or leave it for a painted-wood look. We bring samples of both.
What wears first on a refinished cabinet?
The edges you touch most: by the sink, the cooktop and the pulls. We write your color name and sheen on the back of the sink-base door so you can order matching touch-up paint.
Does Houston humidity change the schedule?
It can. Humid days slow drying and curing, so doors dry indoors on racks and we may add a day between coats. The data sheet says how long the finish needs before hard use, and we tell you when to go gently.
