Questions

Questions about refinishing cabinets

How long does a kitchen take?

Most kitchens take five to eight working days from the day the doors come off. A large kitchen, an island in a second color or heavy repairs add days. Your written price gives the days for your kitchen; it isn't a promised date.

Can I really use my kitchen?

Yes. We spray the doors and drawer fronts in our shop and finish the frames in your kitchen by brush and fine roller, so the sink, stove and refrigerator stay in use. Two days are tight, when the frames are sanded and when they get their finish coats. We tell you which days ahead so you can plan a microwave or takeout.

What is on the written price?

Doors, drawer fronts and frames counted one by one, the repairs, the coats and sheen, the color, hardware off and back on, the days, the payment schedule and what's left out. It's a message with numbers, not a range.

What isn't in the price?

New hardware, replacing a swollen or broken door, cabinet interiors in a second color, walls and ceilings, and repairs we only find once the doors are off. Each is a line you approve before we do it.

Can you price from photos?

Usually. Send three photos: the whole kitchen, the cabinets with doors open and one close of a door front. If the photos aren't enough, Adela comes to count the doors in person.

Who buys the paint, and which paint is it?

We do; it's in the price. It's a premium cabinet-grade enamel in matte, satin or semi-gloss. Ask for the product data sheet and we send it with the written price.

Does Houston humidity change the schedule?

It can. Humid days slow drying and curing, so doors dry indoors on racks and we may add a day between coats. The data sheet says how long the finish needs before hard use, and we tell you when to go gently.

Homes built before 1978: is there lead paint?

Houses built before 1978 may have lead-based paint, and sanding cabinets can disturb it. Tell us the age of the house when you ask for a price. We ask before we open anything, and where the federal EPA rules for the work apply, we follow them; our firm number is in the footer.

Will the oak grain show through the paint?

Yes, unless it's filled. Honey oak has deep grain. We can fill it for a smooth look, which is its own line on the price, or leave it for a painted-wood look. We bring samples of both.

What wears first on a refinished cabinet?

The edges you touch most: by the sink, the cooktop and the pulls. We write your color name and sheen on the back of the sink-base door so you can order matching touch-up paint.

Can you paint laminate or thermofoil?

Sometimes. They need a bonding primer and a look at the edges first. Send photos, and we tell you if it will hold. If it won't, we say so before taking a deposit.

How do the deposit and payments work?

We ask for a deposit before the doors come off. The amount and the schedule are written on your price, and the balance is due when you've walked the kitchen with us and signed off.

What does the warranty cover?

Our written warranty covers peeling and chipping that come from our work, not daily wear or water damage. Terms, limits and exclusions are in your written warranty.

I live in a condo or a managed building. What do you need?

Ask your building about work hours and elevator reservations. We give your manager the dates and the names of the crew who will be in the unit.

What about kids and pets during the week?

Keep them out of the kitchen on sanding days and away from the frames while the finish dries. Doors are in our shop, so there are no wet doors lying around the house.

Do you speak Spanish?

Adela, Moises, Eladio and Lizeth do, on the phone, in text and in your kitchen. Cesia and Cristofer work in English; ask for a Spanish speaker on any call. Every page of this site is also in Spanish.
